Tributes to teen with 'infectious smile' who was killed in Brooklyn Center hotel

Six people were arrested in connection with the killing, and remain suspects even though five have been released from custody.

Authorities have confirmed the identity of an 18-year-old woman killed in a shooting at a Brooklyn Center hotel over the weekend.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said Allie Marie Campbell, of St. Cloud, died at around 8:45 p.m. from a gunshot wound at the Quality Inn at 1600 James Circle N.

Six people aged 19 to 23 were arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of murder in the wake of the killing, the Star Tribune reports, but five of those have since been released though still remain suspects.

The one left behind is staying in jail in connection with a first-degree assault case, the newspaper notes. No motive for the teen's killing has yet been revealed.

An obituary for Campbell posted on Wednesday reveals she worked in housekeeping at the Hampton Inn in St. Cloud, and previously attended school at the St. Cloud Area Learning Center.

"She will be remembered for her infectious smile and always wanted people to be happy around her," the obituary said. "She loved spending time with her younger brother Zach, her younger sister Madison and also her many friends. They will all dearly miss her."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise $13,000-$15,000 to cover the family's funeral costs, and has so far raised almost $1,400.

"This unexpected tragedy had left a hole in the Campbell family's life, that they will be unable to fill," the page says.
