Trooper's car hit; 183 crashes statewide on snowy roads

A Minnesota State Patrol trooper was among those drivers in 183 crashes Thursday and Friday on slippery Minnesota roadways, the St. Cloud Times reports.

The trooper was helping drivers who slid off U.S. Highway 10 north of Sauk Rapids, when his car was hit, the newspaper reports. He had minor injuries.

There were also 226 reports of vehicles that went off roads, and 26 injuries were reported, but none were serious.

Snow and strong winds created treacherous driving in many parts of the state on Thanksgiving night into Black Friday. Much of Minnesota got at least a little snow, with about 1 inch in the Twin Cities. About 10 inches fell on the town of Finland in Minnesota's Lake County, the National Weather Service said.

More tough driving is in store for those braving the roads, WDAY reports, as more snow is likely on the way Saturday in parts of the state, forecasters say. High temps will mostly be in the 20s and 30s around Minnesota on Saturday and Sunday, the National Weather Service says.
