Truck crashes through the barrier at high school stadium, lands on the field below
A vehicle broke through the barrier fence at Hastings Public Schools' McNamara Stadium at Todd Field Wednesday and crashed onto the field, according to a tweet from Hastings Public Schools.
Deputy Chief David Wilske of the Hastings Police Department told BMTN a vehicle was traveling northbound on Eddy Street at a "high rate of speed" just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday when it failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 55, crossed two lanes of traffic and "launched" off the roadway.
The truck broke through the barrier at the stadium and landed on the field, the tweet says.
The vehicle didn't crash into any other vehicles, Wilske said.
The driver, a man, was transported to Regions Hospital, with Wilske noting drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
McNamara Stadium at Todd Field is home to Hastings High School's football, soccer and lacrosse teams, according to the athletics department website. No activities were taking place at the field and nothing is scheduled there before July, the district said in the tweet.
The area is closed while officials investigate, the tweet says.
BMTN has reached out to the school for additional information.
