Two people were killed along with the horse pulling their buggy when they were struck by a pickup in Stearns County on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, the crash between the truck and a horse-drawn buggy was reported at 11:17 a.m. on County Road 9 near Queens Road, which is about 15 miles west of St. Cloud, or just north of Avon.

Officers en route were informed that both passengers in the buggy were critically injured and bystanders were performing CPR. Sadly, a 72-year-old man and 66-year-old woman, both of Avon, died at the scene.

The horse was also severely injured and died.

Investigators determined that a Ford F150, driven by a 23-year-old man from Avon, was traveling north on County Road 9 when it struck the buggy on the shoulder, sending it into the ditch.

Crash reconstruction closed the road until about 2:45 p.m.

The identities of the two people killed have not been released and the driver of the truck wasn't injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.
