Trump: We're going to win Minnesota, 'I love Minnesota'

Trump made a stop in Minnesota Sunday, saying he can win the state and the White House.

Thousands gathered inside a hangar at the airport for Donald Trump's first visit to Minnesota during his campaign, where he said "In two days we are going to win the great state of Minnesota."

Minnesota hasn't voted Republican in more than 40 years, but this is the second time in about a week where Trump has told his supporters: “We can win Minnesota."

Trump began his rally Sunday by criticizing Democrats over the increases in the cost of health insurance in Minnesota, continued to call for Hillary Clinton to be charged for the crimes he says she has committed (minutes before Trump's rally, the FBI said again it wouldn't recommend prosecuting Clinton in connection to the emails she sent as secretary of state), called the media dishonest, and said he'll change President Barack Obama's open border policy while warning of Somali immigrants in Minnesota. (Watch the rally here in a stream by WCCO.)

Despite Trump's confidence that he can win Minnesota, analytics website still has Clinton as the favorite to win the state, with an 81.1 percent chance as of Sunday afternoon. She's also projected to win the White House – though the numbers are down a bit from last week – with a 64.9 percent chance of winning overall.

Thousands gather for the rally

Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Keith Downey told MPR News there were 17,000 requests for tickets to Sunday afternoon's rally, but Sun Country's airplane hanger only holds about 5,000, a tweet from Bloomberg's political reporter Jennifer Jacobs says.

Despite that, thousands of people who couldn't get inside the hanger stood outside the rally.

Trump's visit isn't the only last-minute push from Republicans. His running mate Mike Pence will be in Duluth Monday morning to campaign in the district that's been said to have the highest number of Trump supporters in the state.
