Twin Cities auto repair stalwart Lehman's bought out by MN-based rival ABRA

An auto repair company that has operated in the Twin Cities for the last 98 years has been bought out.

The six Lehman's Garage locations dotted around the metro area have been acquired by ABRA Auto Body & Glass, a company founded in Minnesota that has since expanded to more than 300 locations across 23 states, according to a press release.

It will mean new owners for Lehman's, which was founded in 1917 by L.P. Lehman and purchased in 1969 by Dick Cossette, its website says.

It was the company's history in the Twin Cities that attracted ABRA, and something the new owners say they intend to honor going forward.

"Today’s acquisition is particularly special for us as Lehman’s has been serving the community for almost a century," ABRA CEO Duane Rouse said. "The history, the reputation, and the dedication of the company to providing exceptional customer service and quality repairs is undeniable and we are eager to carry that tradition of excellence forward."

Karen Cossette, the now former CEO of Lehman's, said the company had attracted plenty of suitors over the years, but said that ABRA's "similarities" persuaded them to sell.

"We chose ABRA because their work ethics closely resemble ours and we share like-minded values of integrity, employee talent, and a commitment to customers," she said in the press release. "We’re proud to have them continue the legacy we’ve built over the years."

Brooklyn Park-based ABRA's acquisition is part of its wider expansion plans, saying it's "seeking new opportunities to acquire repair centers and integrate them into its industry-leading operation system."
