Roseville-based McGough Construction will oversee budgets, construction schedules and hire sub-contractors for the new $80 million corporate tower and parking ramp planned for downtown Duluth, the News Tribune reports.

McGough beat out two other finalists -- Adolfson & Peterson Construction of Minneapolis and Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. in Minneapolis and Duluth -- to serve as the project’s construction manager.

The firms's previous projects have included the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis building, the Reflections Condominiums in Bloomington and the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis.

“We’re incredibly excited to be working on this project and look forward to working with the city, AtWater and Maurices,” Brad Wood, McGough’s executive vice president, said in a statement to the newspaper. “Through partnering with all the team members, we will make this project a great success for Duluth.”

Sixty percent of the new tower will become the new corporate headquarters of clothing chain Maurices, which is investing $30 million in the project.

Demolition of the former two-story KDLH-TV building on the site is expected this fall -- about a year later than initially expected.

Construction on the new complex is expected to begin early next year, with completion targeted for late 2015.
