A Twin Cities Gander Mountain could live on as Gander Outdoors after all

And that location might get more than just a Gander Outdoors.

Although Minnesota is losing several of its Gander Mountain stores following the chain's bankruptcy, it looks like at least one location will be saved after all and live on under its new name: Gander Outdoors.

Marcus Lemonis, the owner of Camping World who bought out the ailing St. Paul-based outdoors retailer earlier this year, is relaunching the brand after the name change. And he's identified 36 sites for new stores.

One of those is in Woodbury, with Lemonis suggesting on Twitter his company will build a new outlet across the I-94 highway from the existing Gander Mountain. That store is one of seven Minnesota Gander Mountains that have closed or are closing.

More than just Gander Outdoors?

There could be more than Gander Outdoors at that spot as well.

The business mogul and reality TV star tweeted it could be a hybrid location with elements of his Camping World (which sells RVs) and Overtons (which sells watersports/boat/fishing gear) chains at the site.

The presence in Woodbury is contingent on discussions with landlords.

What's happening to the other stores

Lemonis has confirmed that five other Minnesota stores will remain open – in Forest Lake, Lakeville, Baxter, Bemidji and Hermantown.

Lemonis said that 90 percent of the stores he's keeping open will have Overtons added, so shoppers in these Minnesota locations can expect to see Overtons products appearing in the near future.

Stores that have closed or will close include those in Blaine, St. Cloud, Rogers, Mankato, Rochester, and Eden Prairie.

Lemonis was asked why Eden Prairie wasn't considered for one of Gander Outdoors' new locations, considering its wealthy local residents and relatively low local competition.

But the businessman, who hosts The Profit on CNBC, suggested that the future construction of the Southwest Light Rail line into the suburb makes it unworkable.

Gander has a new logo too

By the way, this is the new logo you can expect to see on Gander Outdoors stores, which Lemonis selected after a Twitter contest.
