A West St. Paul man convicted of strangling his girlfriend and then posing for a selfie with her body will spend the next three decades in prison.

29-year-old Marc Amouri Bakambia was charged last year in the murder of 24-year-old Dorothy Ann Redd, from whom he'd been ordered to stay away after a domestic assault incident just days before, according to the Dakota County Attorney.

KARE 11 reports Bakambia on Tuesday pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with intent to kill and was sentenced to 30 years behind bars.

The station says an investigation of the man's cell phone yielded a self-taken picture showing a "crying Bakambia" next to the body.

Bakambia seemed to display signs of deep distress during the investigation and his subsequent incarceration; the Star Tribune reports that he left "numerous" voicemails for investigators while in jail, saying in one of them, “My life don’t have no sense right now ... I need to know exactly what I did to my fiancée.”

The paper says Redd had tried to end their relationship.

According to WCCO, Bakambia may be deported back to his home country of Congo when he is released from prison.
