Twin Cities shooting suspect blames noisy cars for deadly rampage

34-year-old Nhan Lap Tran, the Oakdale man suspected of killing a fourth-grade boy after randomly shooting at passing cars in Oakdale on Feb. 11, told investigators he was upset with drivers revving their engines near his home, the Associated Press reports.

Tran faces six felony counts, including two counts of second-degree murder, attempted murder and assault with a weapon.

According to a search warrant affidavit., police also found a note in his home that read "Random Kill, Fake Plates." The date "12/12/12" was also written all over his bedroom walls.

Nine-year-old Devin Aryal, who was riding in his mother's car, died in the shootings. His mom, Melissa Aryal, and another woman, 68-year-old Karen Knobloch, were both wounded.

A review of Tran's mental health evaluation is set for March 25. He remains in custody on $2 million bail.
