Minnesota is ringing in the start of November with another bout of snow, with up to 6 inches predicted for parts of the state.

The National Weather Service has given its latest predictions for snow levels, with it starting to fall late Wednesday morning into the evening.

The Twin Cities will likely catch the southern end of the winter system, with the range of snow expected to hit the metro anywhere from less than an inch to as many as 4 inches.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for north metro counties Anoka and Washington, as well as those north of the Twin Cities including Chisago and Mille Lacs.

The weather service says people living in these areas can expect accumulations of 3-4 inches, before it mixes with drizzle ands ends Wednesday evening.

Winter weather alerts have been simplified, here's what they mean.

The advisory will stay in place until 7 p.m., with drivers warned it will make road conditions slippery during the evening commute

Those living in the rest of the Twin Cities are more likely to see somewhere between 1-3 inches of snow.

The Northland can expect more

Snow will be heavier in the north of the state, particularly along the North Shore where the NWS has issued a winter storm warning.

It has warned the Northland to expect heavy snow accumulations, with 4-6 inches falling on Wednesday alone before it stops falling in the evening.

The winter storm warning is in place till midnight. You can read more about the NWS's updated winter weather alerts here

It comes after the Northland area got almost a foot of snow in last Friday's fall.
