A woman from the Twin Cities was killed in a crash in the Brainerd Lakes area on Saturday evening.

The crash happened on Hwy. 371 near Pequot Lakes, about 20 miles north of Brainerd, at 7:36 p.m., according to the State Patrol.

The driver of a Ford Focus coupe, a 25-year-old woman from Brooklyn Park, left the road on the right hand side and hit a tree.

She died as a result of her injuries. Her identity is expected to be released later on Sunday.

The number of fatal crashes on Minnesota road has now passed 200 for the year, with the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety website noting there have been 202 confirmed road deaths.

This compares to 199 at the same time last year.
