Two people died in separate incidents in Minneapolis late Friday and early Saturday.

An adult male was fatally shot around 11:40 p.m. Friday night on the 2700 block of Blaisdell Avenue South, Minneapolis police said in a release. Officers found the victim with a gunshot wound; he was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance, but later died from his injuries.

Police said no arrests have been made.

Less than three hours later, a woman was stabbed to death about a mile away, in the area of 4th Avenue South and Franklin Avenue East, police said in another release. Officers responded to a report of a struggle around 2:20 a.m., and found the woman with a stab wound. She was taken to HCMC where she died from her injures.

Police say the suspect fled before officers arrived.

Police spokesman John Elder told the Star Tribune two homicides in one night is "something we don't normally see."

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will identify both victims at a later time.

The Minneapolis Police Department asks anyone with information about either incident to contact them: via text to 847 411 (tip 411); enter MPD and the tip. All texts are anonymous. Or call the tipline at 612-692-TIPS (8477).

More violence this week

In addition to the fatal incidents, KARE 11 reports a man was injured after being shot following an argument near a Cub Foods on the city's north side, but his injuries don't appear to be life threatening.

The shootings and stabbing come just a day after a man was seriously injured in what Minneapolis police are describing as an intentional hit-and-run.

The department said in a news release police were called to the 2500 block of Lyndale Avenue South shortly before 2 a.m. Friday, after reports of a person getting hit by a car. Responders found the man, identified as 39-year-old Tarrince Emmanuel Winbush, lying in the street with serious injuries. He was taken to HCMC.

According to police, the victim and the suspect got into an argument at the Bulldog Uptown bar, near the intersection of Lyndale Avenue and 26th Street. The conflict spilled onto the street, and at that point, the suspect then got into a car and “with apparent intent,” hit Winbush.

The driver struck a scooter and another parked car before fleeing south down Lyndale Avenue, police say. The vehicle was caught on surveillance video, and is described as a maroon four-door with a dark roof; possibly a Town Car or a Mercury Marquis style vehicle. No arrests have been made as of Saturday afternoon.

In addition, the Star tribune notes police are still searching for the suspect who shot nine people – including Vikings player Linval Joseph – at 400 Soundbar in downtown Minneapolois last week.

Shootings statistics

Each week, the Minneapolis Police Department releases a map of all reports of shots fired in Minneapolis over the past seven days – whether it’s an actual shooting, the sound of shots fired, or an activation of the ShotSpotter technology. According to those maps, there were four different shootings recorded from Aug. 5-11 in Minneapolis – and dozens more instances of shots fired.

In June, WCCO reported the Minneapolis City Council voted to spend an additional $300,000 in order to expand the ShotSpotter program to more parts of north Minneapolis, due to increased gun violence in the area.

In late July, the city announced it was adding more police officers to crime-plagued areas of the city through Labor Day.
