Two killed after car is hit by semi in southeast Minnesota

The crash happened just north of Claremont.

Two people have died in southeast Minnesota after a car was struck by a semi driver on Wednesday evening.

The crash happened on Hwy. 14 east of Claremont just after 6 p.m., and saw an International Semi heading westbound collide with an eastbound Ford Fusion.

The collision killed the two occupants of the Ford, a man aged 57 and a woman aged 52, both from New Richland, Minnesota.

Their identities have not yet been revealed.

The driver of the semi, a 75-year-old man from Cleveland, Minnesota, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The latest figures from the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety show there have been 321 deaths on state roads so far this year.

At the same point last year, there had been 337 deaths.
