Two Ramsey County men sentenced in mail theft scheme

Sonny Vang Xiong was sentenced to three years in prison, while Davis Her was sentenced to six and a half years in prison.

Two Ramsey County men have been sentenced after they participated in a mail theft scheme last year.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced Friday that Sonny Vang Xiong, 32, of Maplewood, and Davis Her, 36, of St. Paul, had been sentenced after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit mail theft.

Her also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Xiong and Her worked with others to steal packages from post offices, apartments and mailboxes between August and November of last year, according to court documents.

They would reportedly target buildings where many mailboxes could be accessed at once, looking for money orders, checks, identifying documents and other valuable items.

The two would use the stolen items to create fake money orders and checks that others could cash. This includes using fake identification and personal information.

Xiong was sentenced to three years in prison, while Her was sentenced to six and a half years in prison.
