A third robbery near the University of Minnesota campus in less than three weeks has campus security officials concerned.

The latest incident occurred shortly after midnight Friday, Minneapolis police say, when a 19-year-old student was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint by three men.

The student was walking home near 14th Avenue and 7th Street SE when the men approached him and demanded his possessions. One of the three pointed a gun at the victim's head while they searched him and took his wallet, cell phone and backpack, police officials say.

The suspects fled the area immediately. They are described as black males in their early 20s, with thin builds and scruffy facial hair. They were wearing dark colored hoodies and pants. One of the suspects had on a letter jacket.

Police are investigating whether the latest incident might be related to two other robberies near campus that occurred in late November, according to the Star Tribune. All three victims were U of M students.

Nov. 25: A student was walking northbound across the 10th Avenue bridge near University Avenue around 1 a.m. when a group of four men approached him. They demanded his possessions and assaulted him, according to University of Minnesota police. The suspects took his wallet and cell phone before running from the scene. The victim was not seriously injured. There aren't any descriptions of the suspects available.

Nov. 21: A student was robbed at gunpoint at the east entrance to the Carlson School of Management building shortly before noon.

The victim was leaving the school building and the suspect was waiting in the entryway, U of M police say. He approached the victim and asked her for the time, then showed her a handgun inside his jacket and demanded her valuables. The suspect took her cellphone and the suspect fled on foot. The victim was not injured.

The suspect, who was seen on security camera footage (images at top), is described as a black male in his early 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches, with curly, medium length hair.

The suspect was wearing a gray baseball cap, a black leather jacket with a white hooded sweatshirt underneath, and blue jeans. He was carrying a black backpack and the weapon he had was a small, black, semi-automatic handgun, according to police.

Anyone with information about the two off-campus robberies is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send an anonymous tip to CRIMES (274637) and begin the text message with TIP674.
