Unbelted driver killed in head-on crash in western Minnesota

A 69-year-old man from Montana was killed in a head-on crash in icy conditions in western Minnesota.

The crash was reported around 6:40 p.m. on New Year's Eve, when a southbound Chevy pickup veered into the northbound lane on Hwy. 9, northwest of Fergus Falls, and struck an oncoming Buick Enclave.

The driver of the 1992 Chevy GMT, a 69-year-old man from Whitehall, Montana, was killed in the collision. 

The Minnesota State Patrol says that he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Five people in the Buick, all of whom are from Thief River Falls, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The name of the crash victim is expected to be released later on Wednesday.
