A plane bound for Minneapolis-St. Paul slipped off the runway after it was diverted to Green Bay.

The United flight UA878 from Houston was due to land in MSP at 10:30 p.m. Thursday but was twice diverted after being unable to land in the Twin Cities because of the overnight snow.

United Airlines told GoMN the flight was first diverted to Madison, where it landed at around 1:15 a.m., and after making another attempt to land in MSP – circling the airport several times – it was diverted again to Green Bay.

As it landed at Austin Straubel International Airport just after 3 a.m., the plane "left the runway."

"There were no injuries and we have arranged transport for passengers from the aircraft to the airport terminal," United said. "We apologize to our customers and have provided hotel accommodations."

Passenger Mike Henderson told KARE 11 that the runway was icy as it landed.

"You couldn't feel the brakes biting at all," he said. "And then all of a sudden bumpety bump and we're now sitting off in the weeds at the end of the runway."

In 2016, the plane carrying the Minnesota Vikings landed safely in Appleton, Wisconsin and then slipped off the taxiway. Nobody was injured in that incident, either.
