Update: Search for missing WI woman on hold, foul play not suspected

Authorities' search for missing Wisconsin woman Marya Anna Christiansen is on hold as they determine the best strategy going forward.

Pierce County Sheriff Nancy Hove told BringMeTheNews Monday morning their search for the 23-year-old has "kind of come to a halt" as they work to formulate a plan.

Christiansen was last seen around 2:30 a.m. Saturday leaving a friend's residence in Red Wing, Minnesota, after a night out on the town, Patrol Sgt. Andrew Thoms told BringMeTheNews. Christiansen told the people she was with she was going home, near Hager City, Wisconsin – just across the river from Red Wing.

Christiansen's boyfriend called Saturday afternoon to say she never made it back.

She was last seen wearing a red short-sleeve shirt, black leggings, and tall black boots. She's about 5-foot-2, 150 pounds, and has blonde hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information about Christiansen is asked to call the Pierce County Sheriff's Office at 715-273-5051.

No significant leads

Christiansen left by herself, and would have been driving a white 2006 Dodge Caravan, with a Wisconsin plate 443-VPF. It also has a large amount of rust on the sliding doors, both sides, as well as a dent on the front driver's side fender and the rear passenger side taillight, the sheriff's office noted in an update.

Hove said they do not suspect foul play, but have no good idea of where she might have gone. She could be in Duluth or even a different state, Hove said, and that makes it hard to formulate a search plan because "where do you start?"

Christiansen's cellphone can't be pinged to determine a last known location because it's a Tracphone – not one of the major mobile carriers, Hove said.

"The only thing we can do is try the number and see if anybody picks up or it goes to voicemail," Hove continued, noting right now, the phone is ether shut off or dead.

They're looking at bank records to see if there's been any activity on her accounts.

And on Sunday, Thoms said the sheriff's office had water patrols out on the river, plus a plane in the air to help in the search.

The sheriff's office has gotten some tips from people who thought they may have seen her – none have panned out however.

"We’re searching all those angles, but we keep coming up with nothing," Hove said.

Community search efforts

A Facebook page titled Please help us find Marya Christiansen is providing updates, and organized a search effort for Sunday morning in Red Wing. But an update later that afternoon called it "unsuccessful."

Hove said the sheriff's office is keeping in touch with the group to get an idea of where they've looked.
