The man suspected of burglary and sexual assault in Anoka County has been arrested, officials say.

Jarid Troy Alan Jovanovich was found in Minneapolis and taken into custody, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post.

Police had asked for the public's help in finding Jovanovich, who is suspected of burglary in Columbia Heights and St. Anthony. In one incident, authorities say he's suspected of breaking into a home where two girls were sleeping and sexually assaulting one of them.

The arrest

On Wednesday morning, someone contacted the Minneapolis Police Department and said they thought they saw Jovanovich walking around Main Street and 3rd Ave SE, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Officers say they arrived at the area at 10:29 a.m. and spotted the suspect – that's when he took off running down an embankment along the Third Avenue Bridge towards the Mississippi River.

Police from Minneapolis and Metro Transit caught Jovanovich in the rocks under the bridge and took him into custody.

He was treated at the hospital for injuries sustained during his attempted escape, the release said.

The charges

In connection to the St. Anthony incident on Sunday, Jovanovich has been charged in Hennepin County with burglary and stalking.

He also has an active warrant issued by the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

He has not yet been charged for any of his crimes in Anoka County, the release said. That case is still under investigation by the Columbia Heights Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

Minnesota court records show Jovanovich has been previously convicted of several crimes including lurking, burglary, trespassing and assault, among other things.
