UPS plans to hire more than 1,800 seasonal workers in the Twin Cities area to help support the expected increase in packages being shipped this holiday season.
The shipping company made the announcement this week that it expects to hire at least 1,820 people, including 48 package car drivers, 125 tractor-trailer drivers, 639 package handlers, 526 personal vehicle drivers, and 484 driver helpers.
“We’re preparing for a record peak holiday season. The COVID-19 pandemic has made our services more important than ever,” said Chief Human Resources Officer Charlene Thomas. “We will hire over 100,000 people for UPS’s traditional seasonal jobs, and anticipate a large number will move into permanent roles after the holidays.
"At a time when millions of Americans are looking for work, these jobs are an opportunity to start a new career with UPS," Thomas added.
UPS is hiring at three metro-area facilities: Minneapolis, 3312 Broadway St. NE; Maple Grove, 8501 Valley Forge Lane; and Shakopee, 901 Canterbury Road.
Pay starts at $20.50 per hour for tractor-trailer and package car drivers, while package handlers get $15 an hour and driver helpers get $16.80, UPS says.
