Utility workers discover suspected human bones in township outside Bemidji

A utility crew in northern Minnesota discovered what authorities believe are human bones.

The crew members were doing work in Brook Lake Township in Pennington, Minnesota, around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office. The crew unearthed what they believed were human bones, so they called authorities.

Information is still scarce. but the sheriff's office said the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the Leech Lake Tribal Preservation Office and Heritage Sites Program all responded to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information is available at this time.
