An 83-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle and killed in Faribault on Monday.

According to Faribault police chief Andy Bohlen, the collision happened just before 1:30 p.m. Monday in a parking lot at 100 State Avenue, which is outside District One Hospital and the Allina Health Faribault Clinic pharmacy.

Officers arrived to the woman being treated by clinic and hospital medical staff. She was taken inside the hospital and transported to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale where she died as a result of her injuries.

The woman has been identified as Darlene Ulrich.

Investigators found that a 73-year-old woman driving a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser struck the Ulrich while backing out of a parking space, and continued in reverse until hitting another vehicle. Witnesses said the PT Cruiser was moving at a high rate of speed.

“In a time of year that is supposed to be so festive, our collective hearts go out to both families involved in this terrible incident," Bohlen said in a statement. "The department will work diligently to determine all the factors that contributed to her death."

The investigation is ongoing.
