Police are asking for the public's help in locating a dark-colored pick up truck that was involved in a Saturday night hit and run that killed two pedestrians in western Wisconsin.

KARE reported that the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Balsam Lake, Wis., reports that the vehicle was passing through the Round Lake Native American community at around 6:30 p.m. when it struck the two. Police say the two men were reportedly involved in a physical altercation in a nearby home that had that spilled onto the roadway just before they were struck. Their identities have not been released.

The Pioneer Press reported that the driver of the vehicle had stopped briefly before fleeing, continuing south on Highway E in the northeastern part of the county. According authorities, the driver of the pickup stopped briefly before driving off.

The Star Tribune said the pickup is described as dark-colored, possibly a Ford, and might have two auxiliary amber warning lights mounted on the top of the cab. The truck is likely damaged in the front, particularly the undercarriage. Witnesses noticed a blue plastic barrel in the box of the pickup.

The Sheriff’s Office said at least two white males were in the truck at the time. Both were wearing baseball caps and at least one was wearing blue jeans.

WCCO adds that the St. Croix Tribal Police are assisting with the investigation, which is continuing.
