Victim in plane crash identified as dentist from Woodbury
The victim of a small plane crash in northern Minnesota has been identified as a dentist from Woodbury.
Dr. Kyle Edlund was flying from Ely Airport to his cabin near Grand Marais when he crashed into White Iron Lake Thursday evening. He died upon impact.
He has been a dentist in the Woodbury for more than 30 years, establishing his private practice, Woodbury Dental Care, in 1989.
"It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of Dr. Kyle Edlund," the dental practice posted on Saturday.
"Dr. Edlund died doing what he loved, flying his airplane on his way to his cabin near Grand Marais. He was alone and was excited to spend a weekend with his son and some friends up north.
"We are going to take some time to process this devastating loss to our Woodbury Dental Care family. We will spend the next few days determining a path forward best to ensure that his current patients are taken care of.Please be patient as this will undoubtedly change our regular schedule."
As well as working at his practice, Dr. Edlund was also a part-time instructor at the University of Minnesota, and treated home-bound and nursing home patients for Dental Home Care.
