The victim of a Friday shooting in Crystal has been identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office as 20-year-old DeShawn Chamberlin McCabe, of Monticello.

Crystal police officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Sumpter Ave. around 7:45 p.m. Friday on a report of a man lying on the ground in a parking lot of the Crystal Village Apartments.

They arrived to find McCabe suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Life-saving efforts by first responders were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death has been ruled a homicide.

According to a GoFundMe, McCabe was a father of an 11-month-old son, DeShawn Jr.

"We are raising funds for the family of DeShawn McCabe who lost his life to senseless violence on Feb 15th," the fundraiser says. "Please keep his family in your prayers and we thank you for any contributions."
