The man killed in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 694 Friday evening has been identified by the Minnesota State Patrol as 40-year-old Travis John Eckman of Brooklyn Park.
The state patrol says Eckman was driving a 2009 Suzuki sport bike and lost control when he clipped a vehicle he was attempting to maneuver around.
The crash shut down I-694 eastbound at the I-94 interchange from about 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A GoFundMe page set up for his family describes Eckman as everyone's "best friend."
"Travis loved life and lived it to the max everyday. He was taken from us far too soon and the loss will be felt everyday for forever. He had enough family and friends for 100 people and yet everyone felt that he was their “best friend”. That’s who he was. And who he will always be to anyone who knew him."
According to WCCO, Eckman leaves behind four children and his wife of 19 years.
The fundraiser has a goal of raising $5,000 for Eckman's family. As of 7:30 a.m. Sunday it has already raised more than $4,000.
