Footage captured at a McDonald's in Minneapolis shows a drive-thru employee being attacked by an unhappy customer.

The video, which has been viewed more than 100,000 times, was uploaded to LiveLeak having been recorded at the McDonald's near The Quarry shopping center in Northeast Minneapolis Monday evening.

It shows fists flying between the pair, and the customer hanging onto the worker's tie in an attempt to pull him out of the window. You can watch the video below, but be warned it contains violent scenes and offensive language.

The person who shot the footage, waiting in the car behind, described the scene.

"At first I was annoyed the guy in front of me was taking so long, he seemed pretty upset to begin with, but it looked like when the McDonald's guy handed him his cash and change back he dropped some of the dude's change," they wrote.

"That's when he got out of his car, spit on the drive through window and tried to punch the McDonald's and that's when I started recording."

"I was fighting for my life"

The Star Tribune identified the McDonald's worker as 22-year-old Bernard Robinson III of Minneapolis, who said he suffered bruises to the neck in the attack, adding: "He grabbed my tie, and he’s trying to get me out of the window. He was choking me. … I was fighting for my life."

The altercation apparently started because Robinson, the overnight shift manager, said one of his staff needed to make change for the $100 the customer had given him for his $3 bill, saying the customer was "ticked that it took so long," adding: "He was blabbing, and the change was dropping out of his hand."

The customer, a 31-year-old from Minneapolis, was arrested by police, cited for misdemeanor assault, and subsequently released.

In a statement given to the Mail Online, a director of operations at McDonald's said: "We are aware of the concerning incident involving an employee and a customer earlier this week. We are working with the local police in their investigation of this matter."
