MPR News described called it "the best lightning show in a long time," because it "produced vivid, nearly continuous lightning for hours," while noting the flash rate for cloud to ground lightning strikes exceeded one per second.

Lightning is believed to have caused a few house fires in the area Sunday, including at a duplex in Lakeville and at a home in St. Michael.

The lightning show came after a line of severe storms moved from Fargo, through the Brainerd Lakes area, and into the Twin Cities. The storm, which produced four unconfirmed tornadoes, also downed hundreds of trees and knocked out power for thousands in central Minnesota. Click here for more on the storm.
