The death of Philando Castile is among several killings of black people by police officers to feature in a viral video by an actor and comedian.

The film, called Black in Blue, uses a recent viral trend the mannequin challenge, videos of people frozen in position, to depict a series of controversial slayings by police officers.

It's the work of director and comic Simone Shepherd, who rose to fame as a star of social media site Vine and whose clip has been viewed almost 2 million times on Facebook.

The video first features the killing of St. Paul school cafeteria worker Castile in St. Anthony in July. Dubbed over the footage is audio from the night Castile died, the voice of his girlfriend Diamond Reynolds from the video she took of the immediate aftermath of Castile's shooting.

Speaking to Attn, Shepherd said: "The mannequin challenge was something that was intended to be humorous and fun and drew everyone's attention and focus.

"I realized that it was important for me to use my platform not to just draw attention, like I normally do, for laughter, but also to bring awareness to important issues and for people not to forget."
