When a gun was put to the head of this Popeye's Chicken worker, he fought back.

The terrifying incident unfolded at 9:50 p.m. last Thursday, when an armed robber entered the rear door of the chicken place on the 1900 block of Beam Ave., Maplewood, and demanded the safe be opened.

He held the gun to the head of an employee who was mopping the floor in the kitchen, but instead of complying, the worker fought back.

A struggle ensued that was captured on the fast-food eatery's security cameras, released by Maplewood PD on Wednesday, that shows the worker grappling with the pistol-wielding robber.

The employee was pistol whipped by the suspect, who was wearing a black hoodie, face mask and red stocking cap, but he wasn't hurt too badly.

Realizing he wasn't getting into the safe, the suspect fled through the back door and police so far haven't been able to locate him.

They are now looking for the public's help finding the culprit, who's described as a black man between 20 and 30 years old, 5'6"–5'9" tall, weighing 150-180 pounds.

He has a number of tattoos on his arms.

Police have found several items of clothing worn by the suspect at the time of the robbery attempt, which have been sent for DNA testing.

"But because of the violent nature of the offense it is hoped that the suspect can be more quickly identified with the help of the public," a Maplewood PD press release said.

"The suspect is considered armed and dangerous and should not be directly confronted."

Anyone with information as to the identity and whereabouts of the suspect should call Maplewood Police Department at 651-767-0640 or 911.
