Community members gathered in Minneapolis Saturday to comfort the family who lost their 2-year-old son to an accidental shooting on Wednesday, WCCO-TV reports.

Neegnco Xiong, 2, died Wednesday after his 4-year-old brother found a loaded gun and shot him in his parent's bedroom of his family's residence.

The boy's father, Kao Xiong, spoke to the media at the vigil, saying, "In my lifetime I never thought this tragedy would happen to my family. I have suffered for the last several days ... I lost a beautiful son."

Kao Xiong said Thursday that he had permit to carry the handgun, which was wedged under a pillow next to his bed’s headboard. The Hennepin County Attorney's Office has not determined whether it will file any charges.

A member of the Hmong 18 Council said Friday that gun safety in the Hmong community has been an issue his organization has been dealing with for years because it is difficult to find Hmong speaking-trainers who can bridge the language and cultural barrier.
