The privately-owned Russian MiG-21 jet rolled off the runway Thursday morning while attempting to land in Eden Prairie, WCCO reports. The pilot was reportedly treated for minor injuries at the scene.

A spokesperson for the City of Eden Prairie told KARE 11 the plane is not designed to land on shorter runways.

An airport spokesperson told the Star Tribune the jet's parachute deployed, but failed to slow it down enough to avoid skidding off the runway. The vintage plane was flying in for this weekend's Wings of the North 2012 AirExpo at the Flying Cloud Airport.

The plane is registered to a Michigan man, according to Minnesota Public Radio.
