Waconia woman dies in crash with semi on Highway 212

A collision at an intersection between a car and a semi left one person dead Tuesday in McLeod County. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the accident happened just after 6 a.m at the intersection of Hwy. 212 and County Road 9 in Plato, which is just east of Glencoe or about 23 miles west of Chaska. 

A 67-year-old woman driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonata was headed south on County Road 9 when she entered the intersection and was struck by a westbound semi truck and trailer. 

The woman driving the car died at the scene. She has been identified as Candice Joy Pederson, of Waconia. 

A 59-year-old man from Stewart, Minnesota, driving the semi was not injured. 

There have been 249 deaths on Minnesota roads in 2019. That number is 20 more than there were at the same time last year, according to the Minnesota Department of Traffic Safety.
