Walker expected to unveil his Obamacare alternative Tuesday in MN

GOP presidential hopeful Scott Walker plans to unveil his idea to replace Obamacare during a visit Tuesday to Minnesota.

MPR News reports Walker, the governor of Wisconsin, will speak Tuesday morning at a Brooklyn Center business called Cass Screw Machine Products.

He'll be among the first of the Republican presidential candidates to get specific with a health care reform plan, according to The Hill.

Walker gave a preview of his proposal in a column in the National Review published Friday, in which he listed several general goals but didn't get into any specifics.

"The president’s policies must be replaced with a plan that will send power back to the people and the states, fix the decades-old problems of rising medical-care and health-insurance costs, and support economic growth instead of punishing workers and small businesses. We must do all of this while ensuring affordable coverage for those with pre-existing conditions, and removing the fear that something as simple as changing jobs could result in loss of coverage."

Health care hasn't received much attention on the campaign trail since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June that President Obama's Affordable Care Act is constitutional.

Republicans are steadfastly opposed to the ACA, but so far haven't been able to agree on a plan to replace it, the Hill notes.

After Walker speaks in Brooklyn Center, he will attend a fundraising event in St. Paul for the Minnesota Jobs Coalition, a group that supports Republican candidates, according to MPR.

Last week, Walker announced that one of Minnesota's top Republicans, House Speaker Kurt Daudt, will be the chairman of his campaign in the state.
