Minnesota firefighters will leave for Oregon Tuesday to help fight wildfires across the state.

Gov. Tim Walz announced Monday that Minnesota would send 29 firefighters and nine trucks to Salem, Oregon. Oregon officials have requested assistance through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, a mutual aid agreement in which states and territories can share resources during natural and manmade disasters.

“Wildfires continue to put our fellow Americans’ lives at risk while devastating homes, businesses, and communities,” Walz said in a statement.

“The Minnesota fire service is known for stepping up in critical situations, putting their lives on the line to save others. I am proud of the way they’ve answered this call to serve. My thoughts are with the residents of Oregon, California, and Washington during this harrowing time.”

Oregon officials requested 10 task forces to help with response efforts. Minnesota will send two of those task forces.

Firefighters and trucks from Brainerd, Fisher, Bemidji, Eden Prairie, Motley, Cross Lake, and Spring Lake Park/Blaine/Mounds View fire departments will leave for Oregon from Fergus Falls Tuesday morning.

Minnesota isn’t the only state sending aid to Oregon. According to WCVB in Massachusetts, members of one of the state’s search and rescue teams will send around two dozen members to assist with the blaze.

The state of Oregon has declared all state forests extreme fire dangers. A map of current fires in the state can be found here
