Incentives to get more Minnesotans vaccinated will be announced Thursday by Gov. Tim Walz.
A news release from the governor's office says a vast list of incentives will be unveiled, including state park passes, fishing licenses and fair and amusement park tickets. Walz is set to speak to Minnesotans along with DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen at a 2 p.m. news conference.
Approximately 100,000 Minnesotans "who get vaccinated between Memorial Day weekend and the end of June" will be eligible for the incentives. Nothing from the news release suggests people who are already vaccinated will be eligible for incentives.
The "Your Shot to Summer" campaign aims to get 70 percent of Minnesotans over the age of 16 vaccinated by July 1. Through May 24, the state has reported that 2,871,544 people have received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 2,524,113 people have completed their vaccine series.
Here are the percentages of specific age groups that have received at least one shot.
- 12-15: 21%
- 16-17: 42%
- 18-49: 53%
- 50-64: 69%
- 65+: 89%
- Total population: 52%
Forty-five (45) percent of Minnesota's total population has completed the vaccine series. MDH has a public dashboard to track vaccine progress in Minnesota, and you can view it here.
