New details say a St. Cloud police officer struck the suspect with gunfire.

A thunderstorm collapsed a silo and barn near Colby Thursday, and a farmer working inside was able to slip out with his life, the Marshfield News Herald reports. About 20 dairy cows were trapped in the rubble. The National Weather Service says 70- to 80-mph winds likely did in the structure.

The Pioneer Press reports city police found an enormous fiberglass cow bolted to a trailer and abandoned in the street, so they hauled it into the impound lot. The owner, whoever that may be, has a right to reclaim it, but the trailer isn't registered. If no one claims the cow, the city will auction it.

Jumbo jets from Fargo are transporting hundreds of cows bred to withstand extreme cold to help the country of Kazakhstan build up its beef industry.

About 25 cows escaped the barn unharmed, while the rest died. The barn was a total loss. The total damage amount is still being determined, but will likely exceed $100,000.

Farmer Keith Sistad told Valley News it's the first time he's ever heard or seen quadruplets in cattle. Three of the calves survived and will be added to his herd.

Livestock farmers and ranchers seeing their feed costs rise because of the worst drought in a quarter-century are demanding that the Environmental Protection Agency waive production requirements for corn-based ethanol. The Obama administration sees no need for a waiver, siding with corn growers – many of them in presidential election battleground states Iowa and Ohio – who continue to support the mandate.

The city of St. Paul recently towed away and impounded a 20-foot fiberglass cow, which police found bolted to a trailer. Now, the man who says he owns said cow would like it back. The problem is Anderson doesn't have a title for the trailer. He tells the Pioneer Press it's just an oversight and he's trying to fix the mix-up. "You think somebody just leaves a cow in front of my house?" he said.

Regardless of the conditions, farmers have little choice but to begin harvesting when their corn, soybeans or other crops are ready. Farmers are being urged to keep a fire extinguisher, water and shovel with them in the fields.
