It's often overheard in Minnesota that without a brutal winter, we wouldn't appreciate spring.

That would explain the collective sigh of relief heard around the state Sunday, when 4 inches of snow melted under mostly sunny skies in the metro, and high temperatures reached into the 50s and 60s around the Minnesota. It hit 62 in the Twin Cities.

And there's more in store – this week promises to be the warmest week in six months with temps in the 50s and 60s and two opportunities to hit 70 in the Twin Cities – Wednesday and Saturday, MPR's Updraft blog notes.

The 3 p.m. game-time temperature for the Minnesota Twins home opener Monday should be about 54 degrees under a cloud/sun mix, WCCO reports.

WCCO forecasts a high of 73 Wednesday when the Twins are back on the field again after a day off Tuesday. Expect highs in the low 60s in the metro on Thursday and Friday, too.

Check out this 45-second time-lapse video that shows the snow melt in downtown St. Paul, posted by MPR:

And click here to watch a satisfying graphic from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which shows snow cover deepen and then disappear across the state in the last two weeks, ending with about half the state showing bare ground by Monday:

We won't dwell on this for now, but there is a bit of a cooling trend by early next week: Sunday's high could be "just" 47 degrees, KARE 11 reports.
