A standoff between police and an armed male ended with the suspect being taken into custody Monday night in Waseca.

At approximately 6:25 p.m., Waseca police officers responded to a report of a male with a gun at a residence on the 500 block of 7th Ave. SE. Other people inside the house were allowed to leave while the Le Sueur County SWAT team shut down the street and area residents were asked to take shelter.

Police have not released any information about how the standoff came to an end.

"This is an ongoing and active investigation and more information will be released when it becomes available," Waseca PD said.

Responding to the scene along with Waseca PD was the Waseca County Sheriff's Office, New Richland PD, Janesville PD, and Le Sueur County SWAT.

On February 24, 2020 at approximately 6:25 PM the Waseca Police Department was called to the 500 block of 7th Ave SE for a report of a male individual with a gun at the residence.

The incident happened approximately seven weeks after Waseca officer Arik Matson was shot in the head while responding to a report of a suspicious person in a neighborhood.

Matson survived the attack and is continuing physical therapy, according to his CaringBridge page

February 22 was declared Arik Matson Day in Minnesota, with the officer's CaringBridge page noting that he was "super excited" for it.
