Washburn High principal on leave amid allegations of cheating

The recently-appointed principal of Washburn High School in Minneapolis was placed on administrative leave after an email surfaced alleging that he tampered with state results.

The Star Tribune reports Patrick Exner, former associate director at Ubah Medical Academy in Hopkins, is accused of changing answers for three students on Minnesota's GRAD reading test.

The anonymous email sent Tuesday night also said the charter school found other instances of Exner reviewing student exams, according to the newspaper.

The Minnesota Department of Education confirmed it invalidated test results for four Ubah students after it was notified in mid-July of a security breach, but no individual was held responsible.

Exner, 45, of Brooklyn Park spent three years at Ubah. Before that, he served as the director of teaching and learning for the West Metro Education Program and spent most of his teaching career at Cooper High School in the Robbinsdale district.

Exner was brought in to replace former Washburn principal Carol Markham-Cousins, who was removed from her post in April after turmoil surrounding the replacement of the school's athletic director.
