Governor Tim Walz is set to speak to Minnesotans about COVID-19 at 12:30 p.m. Monday, and you can watch the press conference live in the YouTube link below.
Walz is going to discuss a new technology that should help Minnesota slow the spread of COVID-19. The technology is a free app called "COVIDaware MN" and it is designed to let Minnesotans know if they've been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
An exposure is defined by health experts as being within six feet of an infectious person for 15 or more minutes. If you opt-in to the app it will use bluetooth technology to find out if you had an exposure to an infectious person.
If you test positive, you can take the verification code given to you by the state health department and upload it to the app, which will then notify anyone who was exposed to you. It keeps your identity and location private, and the app doesn't record any of your personal information.
