One of the rising talents in Minnesota's hip-hop scene was in the national spotlight Thursday night when she was on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."
Lizzo – whose real name is Melissa Jefferson – performed the track "Ain't I" from her newest album. (Video of it is above.)
Mid-song, she paused to tell the audience her grandmother died this week, and said the performance was dedicated to her.
Her second full-length album, Big GRRRL Small World , dropped Friday – it's getting solid early reviews on Metacritic.
Lizzo was actually born in Detroit and raised in Houston, Pitchfork says – but later moved to Minnesota and made Minneapolis her adopted home base, Billboard writes.
"I always say that there's this magnet for weird people," she told the site about Minneapolis.
That was earlier this year, when she was opening for Sleater-Kinney: nine months later, she is performing on Colbert.
She seemed pretty excited about it beforehand.
