Watch: The Rock announces he's running for president on SNL

Can you smell what The Rock is cooking? It's a run for office.

Even though we're only 120-some days into Trump's presidency, there's been plenty of rumors swirling about who will run against him in 2020 – from former Vice President Joe Biden to some Minnesota faces, and even Kanye.

The latest supposed possible candidate is a hero to kids who grew up in the 90s: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

It started off as a joke about a year ago after an op-ed piece declared The Rock was a viable candidate. Johnson posted the essay to Twitter, joking "Maybe one day. Surely the White House has a spot for my pick up truck."

But now it's hard to tell if the former pro wrestler and Hollywood megastar is kidding. Earlier this month, he told GQ that a run for office is a "real possibility."

Whether it's a prank or not, The Rock is having fun teasing us. On the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, five-time host Johnson used the opening monologue to officially announce his plans to run for president in 2020. He also asked a certain Hollywood A-lister to be his running mate.

Check it out:

Is he joking or not? You decide. Though it seems far-fetched, it's not like The Rock would be the first celebrity-turned-politician. And his rags to riches story and strict workout routine are proof of his strong work ethic.

Plus, he's actually pretty active in politics. Johnson told GQ he's a registered independent, and in the past has attended both Democratic and Republican national conventions to encourage people to vote.
