Watch: Wale sees his shadow in 'Groundhog Day'

When Wale released his controversial track "Groundhog Day" last year as a response to alleged barbs thrown at him by J. Cole on "False Prophets," it became one of rap's biggest stories.

This was not just for the adrenaline-pumping confrontational nature of the song, but for Wale's own candidness in addressing rumors and observations about his own reputation. He also completely ripped it. Now, with Groundhog Day just passing, Wale has released an extended version of the song with a full-length video.

Beginning with real excerpts of his more scandalous moments, instead of coming off like he's relishing in his past behavior, these clips succeed as a strong contrast for his discussion of his personal problems as he walks through the tourist spiderweb of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

But then, halfway through the visuals become static as Wale fills the remainder of the eight minutes with a new verse/rant. It's as viscerally personal as Wale gets, and for some whose hip-hop prominence is about to hit the decade mark, sounds as if a lot of this had been building up inside for sometime.
