A busy street in Robbinsdale was closed Thursday night due to flooding following a major water main break, KSTP reports.

Officials at the scene tell the station a 36-inch pipe burst at County Road 9 (42nd Avenue) and Railroad Avenue North. Water about a foot high reportedly stretched for blocks from the railroad tracks to Highway 100, blocking traffic.

KSTP says crews immediately contained the break, but the road could be closed for month while repairs are being made.

The City of Robbinsdale showed photos of the flooding on its Facebook page.

The Star Tribune says a similar water main break happened on County Road 9 near Bottineau Avenue in July 2013, resulting in a 20-foot-deep sink hole. According to the newspaper, leaks caused the pipe to burst, resulting in 600,000 gallons of water blasting downward.

Repairs closed down that stretch of road for three weeks.
