Water patrol increases for busiest boating weekend of the year
With a holiday, a weekend and near-perfect weather, Minnesota is in its boating prime time right now, and water patrol forces are at their busiest.
KSTP-TV visits Lake Minnetonka and catches up with Sgt. Steen Erickson, an unpaid volunteer with the Hennepin County Water Patrol. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the station notes, is looking for water patrol volunteers.
"This has clearly been our busiest weekend of the year, it always is," Erickson tells KSTP, "and so we've got all hands on deck for sure."
Erickson also offers tips, like carrying a fire extinguisher, wearing life jackets and not riding on the gunwales. He also says that any child younger than 10 must wear a life jacket if they're on a moving boat.
