Weather-predicting groundhog bites Wisconsin mayor's ear during forecast

A Wisconsin mayor got more than just a forecast Monday morning while announcing Jimmy the groundhog's predictions for the end of winter.

Jonathan Freund, the mayor of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, presented the lesser-known weather prognosticator during the city's Groundhog Day ceremony. But while he was translating the groundhog's forecast, the rodent bit him on the ear, Channel 3000 reports.

There's also a little controversy over the forecast. The mayor said Jimmy is predicting an early spring, while his handlers say he got it wrong – there will actually be six more weeks of winter, FOX 6 says.

"While tradition holds that only the mayor can translate Jimmy’s prediction and that a clear sky generally means Jimmy sees his shadow and that winter will go on for six more weeks, the Mayor’s translation this morning was clearly for an Early Spring. The break with tradition is unusual, but not unprecedented," a news release says.

The more well-known groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, predicted six more weeks of winter Monday morning.
