A dangerous weekend on central Minnesota's highways has left a dozen people injured, and an 81-year-old man without his wife.

An accident on Saturday saw a GMC Sierra SUV slam into a Ford Taurus on Highway 371 in Crow Wing County, after the sedan crossed the larger vehicle's "immediate path," the Minnesota State Patrol reports.

The broadside collision battered eight of the nine people who were in the vehicles at the time; seven of them are listed by the Patrol as having non-life-threatening injuries.

However, the eighth person – 20-year-old Eden Valley resident McKayla R. Shockey – was "seriously injured" and rushed to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, the Brainerd Dispatch says.

There is no further word on her condition.

The next day, in Mille Lacs County, another broadside crash occurred when a Chevy Equinox attempting to cross Highway 169 was T-boned by a Ford Fusion, according to a State Patrol incident report.

The Patrol identified 79-year-old Madeline Dombrovski, of St. Cloud, as having died as a result of the accident, which the Star Tribune says sent Dombrovski's car on a roll that finally ended with the vehicle upright on its wheels.

Her husband, Kenneth Dombrovski, was reported to have sustained serious injuries.

The Star Tribune noted the other car was driven by a teenager, who was one of two 19-year-olds wounded in the accident. Also in their car was a 78-year-old.

Their injuries are described as non-life-threatening.
