West Fargo officer who died after medical emergency while on duty is identified
The West Fargo police officer who died while on duty this week has been identified as Lt. Adam Gustafson, a member of the force for more than 10 years.
Gustafson, 40 years old, suffered an unnamed "medical emergency" while on duty, in the police department Tuesday afternoon, the city said in an update. Those on the scene rendered first aid until an ambulance arrived.
He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
“Lieutenant Gustafson will be remembered for his contagious smile and laughter, along with his dedication, teamwork and service to the City of West Fargo,” said Chief of Police Denis Otterness in the update.
“Lieutenant Gustafson has made a lasting impact within our department and he will never be forgotten.”
Gustafson had been with the West Fargo Police Department for more than a decade, the city said. He was promoted to lieutenant in the Patrol Division in 2018.
There is a memorial for Gustafson set up in the foyer of West Fargo City Hall.
